ello, my name is Michael Lanza, and here is a little bit about myself:

     I'm a haircutter and make-up artist here in New York. I freelance and also work at the New York Hilton two days a week. I do studio work, video, weddings and a lot of other formal events. Going on site doing hair and make-up for a very diversified clientele including actresses, models, lawyers, doctors, teachers, students, housewives and their children.

     I started my career at "Grossinger's" a resort in the Catskills and I was Jennie Grossinger's private hairdresser until she passed away. My experience there showed me how to have money and not have to show it off. Jennie was a great lady and gave me quite an education on real class. When I came to NY, I worked at "Steiner of London", Henri Bendel, and many other top salons in New York. Three and a half years were spent as 1 of 10 top haircutters under the direction of Sue and John Chadwick for Glemby International, which at this point, is Salon's International. I would be sent to top salons in New York and around the United States training methods of hair cutting to salon owners and their staffs. Glemby was an umbrella company having such salons as Kenneth, Roger Thompson, Suga and all salons in department stores in the US and abroad under them.

     One of the big difficulties in hair cutting is to have someone who listens, duplicates and understands what an individual is looking for and then be able to expedite what is asked for of them. The hair cutter must know his craft enough to know if what is being asked for can be accomplished on the particular individual or give suggestions on what can work for the texture, thickness, thinness and suitability to your look and not your hair cutters: also the technical know-how to make it happen and please the client that you're dealing with at the moment.
