I heard about Scientology in 1969 and became an active Scientologist in 1971; I was then 29 years old. In those early years two main things happened to convince me of the value and workability of this approach to life.
First, the study skills that all Scientologists must master as an early part of their training made it possible for me to complete my PHD degree in English at the University of Toronto. I was already working as a junior professor in a university, but had not got completed the dissertation required for my doctors degree.
The second situation was when my neighbor told me that my daughter had fallen in a frozen creek but couldnt move since her leg was probably broken. I took her inside, she had a face full of blood and was half unconscious. I changed her clothes into warm ones and gave her a Scientology assist, which is a procedure to help the body heal. After the assist my daughter was laughing and only had a minor strain in her leg and it DIDNT hurt.
